Ahmedabad Garba Events by Date: Planning the Nine Nights
Most people choose a venue and then work out the dates. Reversing that often produces a better festival, because the nine nights of Navratri are genuinely different from one another and the differences are predictable.
Navratri 2026 runs Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October.
Opening night — Sunday 11 October
Ceremonial, with aarti before the circle starts. Large crowd but a relaxed one, and the pace stays slower than it will be all week. The easiest of the nine nights to attend if you are new to Garba or bringing children.
The weekday lull — Monday to Thursday
Nights two to five fall Monday to Thursday in 2026 and are the quietest of the festival. Same production, same artists, noticeably fewer people. For dancers this is close to ideal, and single-night entry on these dates gives you the most floor per rupee.
The middle weekend — Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October
Nights six, seven and eight. Every major ground is at or near capacity, gate queues build early and SG Highway traffic becomes a real factor. Saturday 17 October is the single busiest Garba night in Ahmedabad. Best atmosphere, hardest logistics.
Ashtami and Navami
The eighth night falls on Sunday 18 October and carries real religious significance — many families who skip the rest of the festival attend specifically. Navami, the ninth and final night, falls on Monday 19 October, which takes some crowd pressure off. Grounds run their longest programmes on Navami.
Building a plan
A sensible three-night plan: opening night for the ceremony, a weekday night for actual dancing room, and one weekend night for the peak atmosphere. That covers the range without nine consecutive late nights, and it is cheaper than a season pass you will not fully use.
